Bristol City Council issue annually to providers, and prospective providers, an annual Provider Satisfaction Survey.
The Council spends over £300million through procurement the of goods, services and works each year.
We are in the process of implementing our Social Value Policy and embedding this into our commissioning and procurement practice, the policy and complementary toolkit for providers and commissioners can be view here. The key aims and objectives for commissioning and procurement are:
- To tackle disadvantage and address inequalities of health, wealth and opportunity in the city and to involve local people and organisations in how we meet the needs of local communities, engaging and/or consulting with them at the earliest possible opportunity
- To promote the local economy by supporting, and where appropriate taking positive action for, micro, small, medium sized and social enterprises, black, minority ethnic owned enterprises, those with majority ownership/leadership from a group protected by legislation and voluntary and community sector organisations, to spend at least 25% of the Council’s total procurement budget with them, and be ambitious in our endeavour to improve on this figure
- To protect and enhance the environment through sustainable procurement
If we are to make progress toward achieving these aims and objectives we need to understand the experience of providers with commissioning and procurement across the Council, identify what works well and key areas for improvement.
The responses to the survey inform an annually reviewed and updated commissioning development and action plan that we use to support the development of our activities, our practice and processes and where to focus our resources in the coming year.
